"It's not the clothes that makes a statement, it's all about the bag and the shoes." This was a quote that my friend's grandmother used to say, and it's stuck with me in many ways. A simple top and jeans, with a stunning pair of boots or heels and a striking bag, makes for a much stylish, composed look passable as either casual or fancy, than a completely outrageous outfit, with no bag and the sorry heels you sledged through the mud with the other day.
So why am I stating this lovely quote?
Mostly because the post itself is on bags, but also cause it's proved itself true for me. When I first started collecting for a wardrobe on vintage-looks, I used up on high waist shorts, skirts, blouses, tights, oxfords, you name it. But I realized that they didn't fully satisfy. What did I need to add to complete the getups I often imagined of? Oxford wedges, check. Sheer tights, check. A bag... NOPE. Which is why the next day I spent a good deal of time shopping in and out for the perfect bag, finally deciding on a couple. Proud of myself, I showed my mother my new babies, but she wasn't quite the happy duck when she saw the receipts... but my moral here is not to be wise with your money, but to make sure you are not lacking that final touch from a bag! :)
